Michael H asked:

I have never played football for an actual team, but i know everything about the game. The only position that i wish i could be on is tight end. I am 5′11” and 190 pounds. Is this too big to be a tight end? Im a freshman now in high school and i plan to play next year. What could i do over the winter and then in the summer to improve myself.

Find out what tight ends in your coaches scheme mainly do (block, catch) and work either your hands or your blocking skills. Ryan F

Work on your hands, but never forget blocking! That’s way more important! ẋẌẋ Ɗęʋịɭì¢ıɵʉʂ ẋẌẋ

okay bud– you’ve picked a good position for your body type.

You need to ask yourself- are you a better catcher or blocker? because depending on where you think your skills are at you should train. If you are a better catcher thats great- hone in your skills but seriously learn how to block, and learn different techniques. the opposite for blocking- if you can already block, then focus all energy on catching. You will not get the ball thrown to you if you can not catch a football.

Then work on general strength and stamina (weight lifting and running) and generally get in shape.

remember, a positive attitude is all it takes.

    good luck! easyeasy33

If you’ve never played the game, your question is misleading. Tight ends have to block well, run sharp routes, and have good hands. robe

I play fulback and middle linebacker and im a freshman as well… our tightend is about 6′7 but last year we had one that was about your height and he did ok… but you need to talk to your coach and see if your team passes to the tightend or the the tightend blocks. Either way you need to get in the weight room and start building your strength. Especially legs. if your coach sais passing get you ars outside and pass the ball to work on your hands. Your coach will probably do some type of conditioning in the spring and summer. Just work hard and try to stand out and you will play. coaches also like it when you hit hard if you go out there and lay everybody out… your coach wil notice you. also to avoid getting hurt, if somebody is about to hit you, you natural reaction would be to let them hit you. throw the shoulder down on them and show em whos boss HOPE THIS HELPS Jordan
