Ben F asked:

I am a freshman, but I did not play football this year. I am about 5′ 9.5″- 5′ 10″, I weight about 140 lbs, I would like to know what I must work on to be a running back next year, like how much I should be able to bench, how fast of a mile time, or how tall I should be and how to improve on such things, also any helpful drills to do or something similar. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

u need 2 gain weight, but not 2 much so u dont get hurt by huge defensive tackles. then u should be able 2 run a mile in less than 5-6 minutes n be able 2 do da 40-yard dash in less than 5 seconds. gain leg muscle by running a lot n u’ll also build up ur stamina so u can play a whole game w/o needing 2 b taken out of the game 2 rest. 4 bench presses, i would aim 4 about 30 4 starters then work ur way up 2 50. high flyer

Stretching improves speed… it is the most under-rated part of condition. Squats are the best work-out to increase explosiveness in your legs, but any leg exersize will help. Run. Run. Run. At 140, you gotta be fast because you aren’t a bruiser. Bench press doesn’t really matter… 100yrd dash time is more important than a mile time.

If you can run 100yrd in under 4.8 seconds that’s not bad at the High School level… 4.5 is great… the fastest pro’s run a 4.2 Mmmm…. Cheese
