How can I walk on to a college football team?

I graduated high school in 2004 where I played varsity for 3 years. And since I have been out I have played semi-pro football for 3 years, and I have not been paid for it. I plan on applying to various colleges for the spring/fall semisters of 2008. And when I get there I want to play football for whatever school I go to. What all do I need to do now to get ready (other than the exercise that I am already doing) and what do I need to do once I get into the school?

It would be of benefit if you had some sort of demo tape. If not, just contact the coaches and find out the times and dates for walk on looks. Get yourself in top physical shape NOW. Run every day and do the weight training as much as possible. Don’t push the coaches into noticing you. If you have the talent, they will see you. Do every move at 100% and show an attitude that is above what is expected. Good luck….Get back to us if you make it. Tommy

Okay, if you are REALLY good, go to UGA.
If you are REALLY bad, go to Au.
If you are in the middle go to UVA. Country_Cutie

Every school and every coach have different policies on walk ons and how they conduct their try-outs. Some make you do football drills others test your physical condition. I would contact the coach and visit the schools website sometimes they have walk-on information. Just don’t wait too late because some school have a try out cut off list. K. Carlton

Targeting Junior colleges to begin with might be a good idea. A couple of years and then a jump to a larger program. Go vist in person any college you are interested in though. Get your face in front of the coach and the financial aid department will go a long way towards achieving your goal. Corey B

I did the exact same thing that you are trying to do right now at Kansas State University. First you want to do a little research, you aren’t going to walk on to a premier program easily. Second, work out like a beast, I mean non-stop. Tapes aren’t necessary, coaches really don’t research plain walk-ons. Make sure you’ve properly cleared your eligibility, your high school coach should be able to help you out. Find out when walk on tryouts are, and show up. Don’t slack at all, you won’t have any room for errors. Dumb New Englander
