How do I get into liking American Football?
I love sports and I just started getting into Baseball. I mainly love free-flowing and continual sports like soccer, basketball and hockey. I want to add Football to my list.
For beginners, what team should you follow. Buffalo Bills is nearest to my area. Should I watch college football or pros? I need every detail. Thanks
I don’t really like sports games lol.

college football is way more exciting . Juan Perrez
you should like the cowboys (i like them too) and hate the red skins. but seriously, root for whoever you want. college football is so much more fun to watch, but overall, the nfl is better because there arent a billion teams. you should probably just watch it i guess. for every detail, just use wikipedia. Sam
i see your point of watching sports that don’t reset every play.. but I admit American Football is my favorite sport even with the constant clock stoppages and resets..
you don’t necessarily have to watch college football but if your hometown NFL team isn’t that good you could start with college football, more teams and more players, you might find things you like about it.
college has a couple different rules so you might prefer their rule system or even their Overtime scheme.
I would follow whichever one you like, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a hometown team, if you live in New York and want to follow the Kansas Jayhawks or even the San Diego Chargers it is your choice, everyone has a team for a reason, just if you don’t want to be known as a bandwagoner make sure if you choose a popular team you know why and not just because they won the superbowl in recent years.. other than that, the best and funnest way to get into a game is to go with a friend who knows a lot about it genuinely and can explain rules and plays and formations and the players.. the excitement of watching it live with a crowd will add to the desire to want to learn more about it in my opinion. the other way is to watch it with a good announcement team and really listen to them explain the game. Another answerer mentioned Madden, while that will give you the rules, players and strategies of real football, the fact that you may not know what you are doing the whole time might turn you off to the overall game itself.. picking plays is harder when you don’t know what you want to do in a certain situation
Get with a friend and either get out and go to a game, even if it’s the Bills, or invite him over for chicken and beer and watch with him on your TV.. that is my best advice,, you might even go to a High School game as it would be cheaper even, mostly the same rules as college, but some slightly different. chris b
Welcome to the world of Football!
First of all watch the pros, they’re easier to follow.
If you want to start liking football, obviously you have to watch it. But there’s no sense of watching it if you don’t understand whats going on. You probably should try to get in a conversation about football with your friends that know a lot about it. Ask them questions about football, like who’s their favorite player or whats their favorite team.
If you want to follow a team, you should probably follow a good one if your just starting to watch. Because if the team your starting to follow sucks, you’ll probably get bored of watching and will get sick of football pretty fast. In your case, the Buffalo Bills are a TERRIBLE team to follow. Honestly, they are going nowhere next season and will likely bore your mind out. So… (I’m guessing you live around New York) follow the NY Giants or Jets. They’re both going to do very well next season, so it will be fun following them next year.
Lastly don’t be afraid to ask questions. People might make fun of you for not knowing the “obvious” stuff, but once you get everything, football is fun and easy to follow. Good Luck! Landre
just watch sports and btw watch highlights of cj spiller hes a new rb (running back) that buffalo just got from clemson. and i prefer to watch both college and pros. cause i do it lol DC
you can either put money on it to make it exciting, or pick a team and root for them. Crazy Joe Davola
since you live near Buffalo, it would make the most sense for you to get into The Buffalo Bills. and definitely watch college football. I love college football even more than the pro’s. nothing can beat the excitement of college football.
hopefully you will become a Texas Longhorns fan. Boring Old Man
First start drinking American BEER. JK In all seriousness try playing in a fantasy football league. It will familiarize you with players around the league. Also if you keep track well you may find yourself watching different teams play to cheer on your fantasy roster. I was already a football fan and like the Minnesota Vikings. But it was not until I played fantasy football until I really became a fan of the game not just a team. That may even help you find a team you can relate to. Or you can pick the nearest team to cheer for. It is up to you to pick a favorite. And once you have one don’t let anyone give you trouble for it. Joe M

The best way to start liking ANY sport is to actually attend the event. It is much more fun to watch in person than it is on television. While the Bills may not be the most fun team to watch in the league right now, you will find enjoyment if you actually go to the game. Once you do, chances are you will either become a fan of the Bills or probably the team they played. From then on, you can catch the games on television and start developing a passion for not only the team, but for the sport as well. thabuchanan
If you love football and you would like to get a career out of it, then becoming a football coach is the right career for you.
