Steve asked:

I love playing fantasy football and this year want to start my own keep league. I have never played in a keeper league so need to know how to do it from scratch. Are there any websites to walk me thru it or anyone have tips?

ESPN is already registering leagues. They have a really good interface. It’s very user friendly. Ladd

I’m sure an advanced web search would yield in the explanation of the process in detail, but here is a basic outline just to give you an idea of what you would be dealing with…
*Determine how many teams you want in your league. Less teams typically results in good players on all of your participants teams, while more teams enables more trading opportunities and will even the field a bit more as it gives the feel of a more random/natural environment that more closely mimics real life.
*Choosing who will join your league is critical. If you truly are passionate about forming a keeper league, then only choose participants who are equally as passionate. Inviting close friends is the best idea as you’re most likely going to keep up with them in the future and thus will want to further your passion pursuit with them in the form of your fantasy league. In short, you want to build something that will last.
*Determine the best way (for you) to stay in contact/communicate with your league members and make sure you have all their contact information.
*Create rules and regulations with your league members. This way everyone can be on the same page from the get go. Once you’ve got these set in stone, make sure all of your members have a copy.
*Now its time for you to decide how to run your league. Will you use online tools or keep track of everything yourself? Only you can decide this and honestly, both methods are simple. I would pick a middle ground: keep up with your own info and produce schedules/rosters/etc on your own terms, but make them accessible online so that all your members can access them at their convenience. I would suggest either creating a Wordpress “blog” where you can post weekly updates and link to files such as spreadsheets you may create so that all the members can get the info they need, or, use the same concept with a private Facebook group (or something to that extent). When starting out though, I would suggest kicking your season off live. If the league members are your friends, have them over for the opening draft, document everyone’s choices/information and get started!

Best of luck to you! Cal
