How do you encourage a kid to keep playing football?

DEBRAG asked:

A kid on the freshman football team is getting discouraged and thinking about quitting. The coach and his staff is new and we don`t know how he reacts when someone talks to him and he afraid to talk to him. Is it a good idea for his parent to talk to the coach or should the kid before he quits. He is a good football player and loves to play.

Getting thru the quitting stage is hard BUT if he does he will benefit more than anything. If he doesn’t It will get easier and easier for him to quit again and again.

I hope he sticks it out I am Truly Blessed

quitting football in Texas is unheard of, if you’re good enough to earn a spot on the varsity squad you wouldn’t trade it for anything….that’s your ticket to a college scholarship, either A&M, Texas, Tx Tech, OU, Nebraska….it’ll get you in the door somewhere! I’d sit his spoiled little azz down and explain mommy and daddy don’t sh!t money, so if he wants an education he needs to bust his azz and earn a scholarship. Britt

the kid should talk to him. But not at practice. this is HS football not the pros the coaches are there to help everyone. as long as the kid is there to work and make himself and his team better the coach should help him out. the same thing happened to me while wrestling in HS megaMan

Tell him not to let his thoughts dwell on all the players who got disabling injuries in return for their moment of glory. Tell him that ten or twenty years from now when his football season is forgotten, if he still limps or has a wheel chair, that he will have had ten or twenty years to enjoy memories of how the girls admired him in his time of glory. Do not even mention the players who as a result of football injures have actually died before the end of the season. cityslicker42

if the kid is not enjoying playing, then let him quit. Youth sports should be fun. If he’s not enjoying it, maybe he should do something else!!!!
Don’t force him to play!!!! Even if he is a good player, he must enjoy playing the GAME!!!!! shalertitan52
