But how much would quitting now hurt my chances of getting into a school like Rice? I read that one of the things about ECs is to show your committed to stuff other than grades.

if you have the a decent SAT score, other hobbies and activities, pass the placement test and have the money to back it up (even in loans), you win the game. Giuseppe
