If he seems amused or flattered, then ask him if he has any extras. If he seems annoyed, ask him if it bothers him to see you wearing his clothes. If he doesn't want you to wear his jersey, it might be because he only has one. Maybe you could settle for his Letterman jacket. Or, you could always just get a picture of the front and back of it, and take them to a place that makes custom shirts.
