How can I remove a name from the back of a football jersey?

I have a football jersey with a player no longer on the team. It is a replica jersey so I can pull off the rectangular piece of cloth that the name is on, but there’s a nasty looking dried up adhesive under it. How do I get that adhesive off? I’d hate to not be able to use this jersey anymore, it was $70! Any suggestions?
