How can I convince my school’s football coach to let my boyfriend play?

My boyfriend has be dedicated to his football practice and he found out today he was not going to be able to play in the football games because he is too short. He is very skilled and dedicated while the other player beat him out only because of his height. The other player didn’t go to practices until they started wearing pads. Is there really a way to convince a football coach to let my boy play?

Is it legal to take off the chest and back padding underneath football shoulder pads?

Underneath football shoulder pads there is a padding between the bare shoulder and the plastic part of the shoulder pads. Is it possible for me to take that padding off and still be eligible to play in games?
