Why do followers of football moan about the outrageous wages of premiership players?

Then go out and buy season tickets and other football merchandise to follow their team?
As a Rugby League supporter I think players from the Premiership should be paid realistic wages because nobody is worth the ridiculous sums they get for the odd decent performance they give.
