I am 13, going into my freshman year and want to play JV football. I am about 5′3 and growing pretty fast. I can catch pretty good, cant really throw. I am fast, but not the fastest. I can make cuts pretty good can touch up to maybe 8′5. I can also sniff out plays pretty good. I can cover above average and I can take a hit.

Whichever the coach assigns. It is not usually up to the player. Wounded Duck

Sounds like you want to play safety. Either that or wide-receiver. For either position, you don’t have the be the fastest guy or the strongest guy. If you’re faster than your opponent, use that to your advantage and run by him. If you’re stronger or can run a great route but aren’t that fast, push him off the line, run a precise route, make the catch and then run him over. At the early levels of the game, learn how to change speeds and how that makes you an offensive threat.

As far as defense, if you can read a play and have good timing, that’s pretty much all you need. Good luck. bluevelvetslug
