Mary R asked:

just moved to MO very small town and son starts football tonight just signed up last nite. needless to say can’t find any cleats in his size. I bought a pair at a thrift store until I can get to a bigger town but they say on the inside track & field. Is there much of a difference. They are metal pointed cleats, which I beilve are interchangeable Not sure yet.. But does it really matter between the two?

football shoes may have different types of cleats depending on the surface, whether it is real grass, or artificial turf. The are not pointed, but have a blunt tip. Track and field shoes are spikes. They have a very sharp tip and are small, slender metal. They are made to stick in the track you can not use track shoes for football. lestermount

track shoes, also called spikes, are lower cut, lighter and can have different lengths of the spikes on the bottom to choose from at Academy and other sports stores Pearl Trade

Track cleats are small (considerably smaller than turf cleats) and metal, whereas turf cleats are larger and rubber. Also, track cleats are usually just at the toe, while turf cleats are all over the sole.

It definitely matters. Track shoes are light and built for a track, either rubberized or cinder, while turf cleats are built for, well, turf, which is where football is played. You might be able to use baseball cleats or soccer cleats, though. Curtis B
